North Padre Island Offers Great Fishing
Just a Short Walk from the Beach Club Condominiums
The Beach Club Condos are very close to many types of water access on North Padre Island. Small sailboats can be launched from the beach. Larger boats should be launched from one of the nearby marinas.
The Beach Club Condos are located near many fishing hotspots on North Padre Island. The recently opened Packery Channel now provides direct access to the Gulf of Mexico. The new water currents and access have also benefited the fish population. And the fishing activity in the area is excellent.
For people that want to go deep sea fishing, there are many local fishing guides that will take you to secret spots that supply an endless catch of trophy fish including Wahoo, Amberjack and Kingfish.
For people that want to stay closer to shore, the North Padre Island’s National Seashore Park beaches offer excellent surf fishing. Fishing inshore with light tackle in the numerous bays and lagoons north of the island are also teeming with fish. Try fishing the piers and breakwaters at rivers and passes. The Laguna Madre offers excellent Redfish and Trout fishing spots. If you have your own salt water surf fishing gear, you can try casting live bait or lures in the low waves and try to catch Snook.
One word of caution when fishing the surf, make sure you drag your feet while walking in shallow water near the beach. Many small Sting Rays habitat the shallow water and shuffling your feet instead of walking will alert them to your presence and they will swim away before you step on them.
Light gear that freshwater anglers usually use for black bass or trout works works well in the shallow lagoons. Small gold and silver spoons, a host of plastic jigs and even flies produce reds and "trout" -- really a saltwater species.
A local fishing tip is to use live bait such as shrimp and a popping cork. The noise of the popping cork attracts the fish, and if there is a live shrimp, croaker or small mullet dangling beneath, you will have a good chance of catching a stringer full of fish.
Various marine worms and other natural baits from the flats produce too. Sand fleas take Pompano from the surf and you can even catch Mullet.
