February’s sunny, crisp weather made it exhilarating to be back at the Beach Club.
As we turned toward our condo, it was with renewed excitement of the time we would spend on the beach with Sandy, our beagle.
It was a year ago that we loaded ourselves and Sandy in our car and drove the 200-mile stretch from Austin to Whitecap Beach. My husband parked the car and let us out for Sandy to complete a call of nature when a scent pointed westward. Sandy followed it feverishly alongside the dunes. There, sharing the breeze with us was a gopher who approached us bravely for a handout.
As I backed away on tiptoe like a ballerina going in reverse, the surrounding area resounded to Sandy’s barks. The little animal ran for dear life. Sandy gave chase. Then she parked herself tenaciously over a sand-hole on the grassy ground, pawing on it as the animal’s head popped in and out of the ground. ' Sandy, leave it!' I yelled, as her teeth snapped shut less than an inch from its head. It was then that I noticed the billboard sign: BEACH CLUB PRIVATE RESIDENCES. IF YOU LIVED HERE, YOU WOULD ALREADY BE HOME.
Now at any great city one is bound to find somewhere a place with soul. A place where people come to visit and see, and where the lucky ones come to stay. And although my husband and I had often flirted with the idea of owning a vacation home, it was at that moment that we decided.
Cool, calm and beautiful are the words that came to mind as the complex poised eloquent on a large parcel near the ocean, distinct heaven of renewed charm, surrounded by marshes, habitat to the white egret and o ther waterfowl crowd. But it was the passive and active energy that emerged from the colorful vignettes of immaculate landscape against the soft backdrop of the structure that pulled us closer.
The location, with the awesome view and steps from the beach was priceless. My husband, having grown up in Flour Bluff, near the Gulf, and I, having grown up in Athens, near the Aegean Sea, it was not a coincidence that we both liked the place instantaneously. We had found our vacation home. Our place to stay.
A year has passed since and as always, every time we come to stay, being for a long week-end or a very long month, we would not dream of being anywhere else.
February came and went and it was fun. We strolled across the sand, listened to the laughing gulls, felt the embrace of the sea-breeze and absorbed the warmth of the sun. And as the crisp days of winter grow warmer, the air, too, becomes warmed with laughter, rich with anticipation for the warm days of summer.
As for Sandy, if only that darn gopher would let her nip at his head just a little. But a good time is had by all.

We first rented at the Beach Club some 12 years ago and were among the first to jump at the opportunity to own our unit.
The proximity to the beach was probably the first reason we choose the Beach Club. The resort style pool and Jacuzzi as well as the state of the art gym are o ther reasons why it was an easy decision to make it our home.
The Beach Club as a real sense of community. Few places will give you the beach, plus the relaxed feel of a rural neighborhood while offering easy access to everything a big city as to offer.

Our experience of buying a condo at the Beach Club has been wonderful. The staff here is fantastic!!
Our favorite part of living here is being right next to the beach and hearing the waves through our bedroom window.
This is an amazing community for young and old alike…not to mention a great investment for our future. |
